The death toll in Haiti’s cholera epidemichas approached 1,000. Aid groups rushed soap and clean water to Haitian to fight the disease. Data released on Friday showed that 917 people died and over 14,600 were hospitalized with cholera-like symptoms. Artibonite, accounting for approximately two-thirds of the deaths, is just one of 6 provinces where the disease has been found.
According to several epidemiologists, it is likely that the disease will worsen and break out in Haiti’s other regions.
Aung San Suu Kyi, 65, was released on Saturday evening after 18-month imprisonment.
